Sock Surprise

She’s already ten minutes late; the bus is gone.

“Let me grab socks,” I say, unfolding a pair. I look at one purple sock and one green. “Did you do this?”

A small hand stifles her giggle. “Surprise!” She shouts.

“Not again,” I sigh. “Guess you need a new chore.”

Thanks! True story, too! My kid is too smart for her own good!

There are days I’ve said “they’re just going in boots” and called it good 🙂

      ME. ALWAYS.

But now because of my daughter’s little game I have about one hundred unmatched socks. I can’t. I just can’t.,.

I’m a fan of mismatched socks, so your daughter and I would probably have fun driving you to distraction with this game. Also purple and green look amazing together — I’m not helping, sorry.

There are socks that match??? 😛 I’ve gotten used to misplacing socks or having the washing machine eat up a sock I forget to notice pairs. Luckily for me, most of mine are white with some small patterns. I loved the innocence in your story and felt like I was watching you and daughter on a busy school morning.

I have an entire laundry basket dedicated to socks without a partner. I can’t bring myself to throw them away JUST in case.

This feels really real. Lol. I can just imagine her anticipation of you seeing the mismatched socks! A sweet take on the prompt.

Thank you 😊 it’s a real trick my daughter used to play when I’d make her match socks. 😂

I liked that this was a playful story even if the mismatched socks might have frustrated you a bit. 🙂

It was funny the first time. Not so much the tenth.

I love this so much, Danielle! But I also think you should write a longer piece on this. Sock Surprise deserves more! 🙂
